Description:Port Stephens Local Government Area is located at the boundary of the mid north and central coasts of NSW, and covers an area of 979sq km. It is bounded by the Pacific Ocean to the east, Paterson River to the west, Hunter River to the south and Karuah River to the North. The most easterly peninsula, 'Tomaree' is characterised by pristine waterways, spectacular scenery, unspoilt national parks and abundant wildlife. The adjoining Tilligerry peninsula is best known for its koala population, idyllic waterfront and peaceful atmosphere. The famous Stockton Beach sand dunes known as the Golden Bight extends 32km south from the Tomaree Peninsula to the mouth of the Hunter River at Newcastle.
