Description:Tyagarah Airfield is located near Mullumbimby/Byron Bay. A proper well maintained strip that runs East/West. It looks to be about 4km from the beach but it seems to be just scrub between the strip and the beach (which is just North of Byron). Only hangars and auxiliary buildings surround the strip, scattered on both sides but with the main buildings on the northern side. There is a long tarmac taxi way from a few almost old buildings and a few palms trees around them give the tropical feel. The long taxi way gives the strip an almost lonely, isolated feel and not minutes from bustling towns. Strip is under the control of the Byron Council and is used for gliding and parachuting activities. The Western end of the strip is close to the highway and associated noise was evident. In fact, when taking photos I had to look around for planes as I thought the sound of the trucks was an incoming. The sound has to be considered but the strip is good and would easily take an Electra.
