Description:Situated on the Manning River around 330km north of Sydney, Wingham is a country town that has remained largely unchanged by the tourism which has affected the townships of the nearby coastline. Wingham is the oldest township in the greater Taree area with a population of 4600. Uniquely, the town is built around a Central Park which sits in the centre of town surrounded by historic buildings. Wingham Central Park features a huge tallow wood log that symbolises the former timber industry in the Manning Valley, as well as a Vampire Jet donated by the Manning River Branch of the Air Force in 1971. Wingham has a self-guided heritage walk tour that lists 21 historic buildings throughout the township, including the post office, courthouse, churches, old butcher's shop, the School of Arts, the Bank Guest House, the Australian Hotel, the Wingham Hotel and the Manning Valley Historical Museum. Other attractions include: Wingham Brush Nature Reserve and Wharf, Ellenborough Falls and Tinonee Village.
