Description:Wellington is a pretty rural centre that is probably best known for its fascinating caves. The town was established as a convict farming settlement in 1823, but was too small to be successful and was replaced by a mission to the Wiradjuri Aborigines in 1837. Disputes over land tenure meant that the gazettal of the town had to wait until the mission closed in the early 1940s.
