Description:
Stroud is a small, historic country village with a large number of convict-era buildings, located in the Karuah Valley. It was created in the 1820s and 1830s as a company town by the Australian Agricultural Company, so the most significant buildings were built by convict workforces by hand. Stroud has been preserved by the National Trust, so visitors can walk around and admire some of the oldest buildings in NSW. There is however, an absence of motels, restaurants and other tourist facilities. Stroud is located 216 km north of Sydney via the Pacific Motorway and Buckets Way and 75 km north-east of Newcastle.
