Description:
The Museum of Sydney is built on the site of the earliest foundations of British colonisation in Australia. Here, in 1788, Governor Arthur Phillip built the first Government House - the home, offices and seat of authority for the first nine Governors of New South Wales. In 1983, archaeologists unearthed the original footings of the house, which by a miracle of history, had lain preserved since it was demolished in 1846. These remains are a feature at the Museum of Sydney. A modern museum built on an historic site, the building is in close proximity to Circular Quay. Within the museum there is venue hire including; - The AGL Theatre boasts state-of-the art audio-visual technology suitable for seminars, conferences, presentations and product launches. It seats 124 people in a comfortable tiered theatre setting. Refreshments can be served prior to, during and after presentations in the Theatre Lobby. - MOS Foyer and Level 2 incorporate permanent display areas providing a fascinating backdrop to any event. Cocktails for up to 350 allow guests to circulate freely from one level to another. The themes of the museum resonate throughout its public areas to provide a continuing experience of Sydney's story. The Foyer seats up to 150 for dinner, guests can enjoy pre-dinner drinks on Level 2. - An exclusive dining area is available in the Viewing Cube, a glass structure that cantilevers over first Government House Place from the main building. Looking over Phillip Street with views of Circular Quay, this unusual area seats up to 24 guests for dinner. - Situated at the front of the museum and overlooking the expansive forecourt, MOS Cafe presents a unique variety of Australian food and wine. The Cafe can be used for private functions with seating for up to 60 guests for a dinner and up to 250 guests for a cocktail party.
