Description:Kooragang Island is 10-15 min (13km) from Newcastle. Kooragang Island is situated in the Hunter River delta, just before the river reaches the sea at Port Hunter, Newcastle. The island itself is a low-lying flat island, formed by the man-made infilling and joining of many former delta islands. The eastern third of the island is now heavily industrial.
