Description:The Katoomba Civic Centre (aka Civic Place or Katoomba Town Centre Arcade) is an important, underused community facility at the heart of Katoomba town centre. Originally built in the 1970s across two levels, it now provides a link between Council’s Blue Mountains Cultural Centre and Library, and the Coles complex. The space features several artworks including ‘Yanema Waradah’ (‘Walk with Waratahs’), an arresting array of art panels that relates to First Peoples creation and cultural stories; a series of stunning murals over the five columns on the lower level; and ‘Cloak of Hope’, draped over one wall of the Civic Centre. This striking upcycled woven installation symbolises the protection of our World Heritage listed landscape. The artworks were commissioned following feedback from the community that the space be beautified with public art.
