Description:
Narrandera is a substantial and gracious rural centre positioned exactly halfway between Wagga Wagga and Griffith where the Sturt and Newell Highways intersect, 555km / 345 miles south-west of Sydney. Situated on the banks of the Murrumbidgee River it is enriched by its many historic buildings and cedar-lined streets. The town has been declared an urban conservation area by the National Trust and the surrounding district has been developed as a conservation area for birds and koalas. Narrandera's heritage buildings include: the Commercial Bank, the Post Office, the Police and Court House Group, the Railway Station, the Royal Mail Hotel, the Narrandera Hotel, the Star Hotel, the Wreck of the PS Wagga Wagga, the Parkside Cottage Museum, the Tiger Moth Memorial and the Big Playable Guitar, the Hankinson Ceramic Fountain, St Mel's Catholic Church and a number of historic homes and shops. Other attractions in the area are: Lake Talbot and the Bundidgerry Walking Tracks, the Koala Regeneration Centre, the Narrandera Wetlands and the John Lakes/Narrandera Fisheries Centre.
