Access is by ferry 7 days a week on the hour or by water taxi 24 hours a day. Car parking facilities are available at the wharf at Palm Beach.

Great Mackerel Beach is a small village of a 138 houses consisting of beachfront properties, holiday homes and residences located in a quiet valley surrounded by the Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park.
