Pooncarie is a remote, pretty township on the Darling River in the far west of NSW, midway between Wentworth and Menindee. Pooncarie is a base from which to explore the Mungo National Park which contains the oldest officially recorded Aboriginal burial site in Australia.
Pooncarie to Mungo National Park is 88 kilometres, of which 29 kilometres is unsealed road. This unsealed section can be prone to bulldust and corrugations and closes after rain. Not recommended for caravans.
