Hay Gaol
Australia / Hay, New South Wales
Location ID: #15615
The gaol complex was built in 1878 and remains a good example of a Victorian era country-town gaol.
Hay Gaol now operates as a museum and cultural centre where artifacts of local history are stored and displayed. Built in 1878 and a community museum since 1976 the Hay Gaol transformed from Gaol to maternity hospital to institute for girls and now a museum. The museum houses an intriguing collection of artefacts from antique windmills to Australia’s oldest known bark canoe. Open 7 days per week from 9am - 5pm.
