Point Stephens/Fingal Island / Fingal Point /Tomaree National Park
Australia / Fingal Bay, New South Wales
Location ID: #15447
This island is known by three names: Fingal Island, Fingal Point and Point Stephens. It is separated from Fingal Bay by a thin sandy spit that can be crossed at low tide. The island is fairly low, covered in scrub, and houses Point Stephens lighthouse (c. 1862, now disused) and burnt- out keepers’ cottages. It has a remote feel, bar the 30 degree angle where you can see the township of Fingal Bay on the mainland.
Fingal Island is part of Tomaree National Park. It is smaller than Broughton Island and closer to shore.
Fingal Bay is 65km (1hr) from Newcastle.
