Sofala
Australia / Sofala, New South Wales
Location ID: #10787
The village of Sofala has retained much of its unique period character. Bordered largely by original two-storey wooden gold-rush-era buildings, the narrow main street houses a post office, pub, general store and fire station. The village is set against the Turon River with mountains behind. Sofala dates from 1851 when gold was discovered on the Turon River, and gold can still be found today.
