Originally built in 1821, the old riverport town of Morpeth is classified National trust for its rich heritage. The main street, Swan Street, is lined with beautifully preserved buildings, uneven cobble stone paths, sandstone gutters, narrow laneways and unique walkways.
Morpeth was one of the most important river ports in New South Wales began in the 1820s under the instruction of the Colonial Secretary. With the development of Queens Wharf in 1833 opening the trade route with Sydney, the town soon became a major industrial and agricultural hub.
Morpeth's fascinating history and beautiful position on the Hunter River provide its unique charm, along with its diverse range of boutiques, cafés, galleries and scenery.
