Built in 1956 at Cockatoo Island Dockyard, Sydney, HMAS Vampire represents the era of big guns superseded now by the modern missile navy. Her cramped living spaces graphically illustrate the nature of warship design: machinery, communications and weaponry come before the comfort of the many crew.
