Non-profit collection of period artifacts comprising a variety of locomotives, as well as lifestyle pieces. Dorrigo has a large collection of historic railway equipment with exhibits ranging from 1855 to the present day. Engines range from 1865 to 1978.
All railway vehicles in the collection are standard gauge (4' 81/2").
To date, the collection holds 60 locomotives, 290 carriages and wagons and over 20 railmotors. The locomotives range from tiny, 8 ton, shunting units to the massive, 260 ton Beyer-Garratt (the largest locomotive in the southern hemisphere), many over 100 years old. Most of the vehicles are non-operational.
The passenger carriage collection includes such specialised vehicles as a prison van, rail pay buses, travelling post offices, bulk mail vans, the former Premier's car and a sleeping car.
Also owned is the Dorrigo railway line, 70km of track that joins the North Coast line. Almost all of the track is non-operational.
