Gunnedah is a medium-sized country town and the hub of a rich agricultural region in the Liverpool Plains. The area is a significant producer of beef cattle, pigs, poultry, sheep, wheat, lucerne, barley, cotton, canola, sunflowers, oats, corn and sorghum, and the town is an important service centre for the region with mills, feed companies, abattoir, sales yards and other associated industries based there.
