Location ID: #10128199
Eden is a coastal town and working port in the South Coast region of NSW, located 473 km south of Sydney. It is a popular spot for whale watching, nicknamed the 'Humpback Highway', and one of its main tourist attractions is the Eden Killer Whale Museum, which documents Eden's history as a former whaling port. During the 1800's Eden's whalers learned how to work with the local pods of Killer Whales to herd the Humpbacks. The skeleton of the last of the herding Killer Whales, Old Tom, is displayed in the museum.
There are various ocean lookouts and scenic coastal walks throughout the town. As a working port, visitors can also watch the fishing boats return in the early morning with the day's catch. Just south of the town is Ben Boyd National Park, named for a 19th Century entrepreneur who played a key role in the area's early development. The entrance to the walking track through the park is marked by Boyd's Tower, built as a lookout for the whalers.
