Bass Point Reserve

Australia / Shellharbour, New South Wales
Location ID: #10121160

Bass Point Reserve is a unique area of stunning natural beauty, a 72 hectare coastal jewel just south of Shellharbour Village. It’s particularly special because it contains one of the few remaining stands of littoral rainforest in the Illawarra. It’s also a heritage-listed archaeological site, having been used as a regular camping site by Aboriginal people for at least 20,000 years, as well as containing other non-Aboriginal heritage items, including six shipwrecks.

The waters around Bass Point are home to numerous marine species, making the area a haven for divers and fishers from around the state. One of its inlets, Bushrangers Bay, is a dedicated Aquatic Reserve.

You can get to Bass Point by following the signs from the village of Shellharbour, which is approximately 20 km/12.4 miles south of Wollongong.
