Broken Hill - ore deposit, Line of Lode Lookout and Miners Memorial
Australia / Broken Hill, New South Wales
Location ID: #10105562
This huge ore deposit bisects the town of Broken Hill, giving it its name. It is a dramatic landscape of steep quarried hills and valleys of bare red dirt. Positioned atop the 'line of lode' is a lookout and memorial building dedicated to the 800+ miners who lost their lives since mining began there in 1883. The metallic tunnel-like structure leading to the lookout symbolises the conditions the miners worked under and the platform provides a view of the whole town. The location features various abandoned buildings, disused equipment and ruins. It is also directly across from the railroad. Can potentially double for Middle-Eastern locations, Afghanistan or the planet Mars.
