Kinchega National Park
Australia / Menindee, New South Wales
Location ID: #10075324
Kinchega National Park is located on the Darling River and the Menindee Lakes system. The park has both red and white sands and the area's colours change constantly with the season, from green lake beds as the water retreats to the mirror reflections of the floodwaters. Red river gums rise from the waters of the Darling river, while on the lakes side black box and wattles grow. Wildlife abounds no matter what the weather, including a wide variety of birdlife.
Visitors can pitch a tent at the Darling River campground or take their caravan to the Emu Lake campground. The area is rich in pastoral and Aboriginal history, such as the historic Kinchega Woolshed and Old Kinchega Homestead. Aboriginal Elders offer tours of the land, explaining its historical use by the indigenous people of the area.
