Rylstone

Australia / Rylstone, New South Wales
Location ID: #10071463

The rustic heritage town of Rylstone is a filmmaker’s dream location. The district was settled in the 1820's, making it one of the oldest settlements west of the Great Dividing Range. Rylstone's charming 19th century photogenic buildings were constructed in the Victorian and Interwar period. With a wonderful streetscape of 19th century sandstone public houses, cottages, and government buildings and 1920's era stores, it’s worth taking the time to wander the streets and capture its essence.

The town also acts as a gateway to the World Heritage-listed Wollemi National Park and the beautiful Bylong Valley, boasting some of the most spectacular natural scenery in the region.

Rylstone is just three hours northwest of Sydney on the Cudgegong River. It is located 237 km north-west of Sydney, 47 km south-east of Mudgee, 93 km north of Lithgow and 590 m above sea-level. Wool, sheep, cattle, coalmining, wine, olives, tourism and cement production are the mainstays of the local economy.

Architecture Style:

  • Art Deco (1920-1940);
  • Period 1920s-1930s;
