Regional Councils - Lockhart Shire Council

The Lockhart Shire and its townships are surrounded by history and the true country spirit. Lockhart Shire is the centre of farming excellence. Fertile soils led to agriculture flourishing, firstly as a grazing district and with the advent of cropping, became a prosperous mixed farming area. Today, its proud history is reflected in the agricultural initiatives and excellence for which the Lockhart District has become renowned.

The Shire's agriculture continues to produce quality grain, prime lamb and beef, with the wool industry still an integral part of its agricultural diversity.

The development of rail infrastructure in the early 1900's generated employment and the growth of the townships. Agricultural-based industries and businesses flourished with the growth in population.
