Regional Councils - Yass Valley Council

In 2006 Yass was the setting for the first Tropfest Feature film September - shot between Yass and Harden - and hosted the cast and crew for two months. Yass town provided offices, workshops, IT support and shoot crew for the 2 month duration.

Yass Valley has its own unique charm and country friendliness. It is conveniently located just 3 hours drive from Sydney, 6 hours from Melbourne, and 40 minutes from Canberra.

Today, the main street is brimming with architectural treasures reminiscent of early settlement days. Many of the wonderful heritage features of Yass Town are best seen on foot. While walking down Comur Street you can browse through the antique shops or stop for a cup of freshly brewed coffee in a cafe. Located just 5 minutes from Yass you can visit Cooma Cottage which was once the home of Hamilton Hume. Yass also has many rural and adventure activities including horse riding, wild caving tours and abseiling. You can even go on a fossil fossicking tour and stay at real working fine wool merino sheep farm.

Burrinjuck Dam was built in the early 1900s as a water storage system for the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area. It is a popular attraction and offers cruises, watersports, fishing, camping and bushwalking. The surrounding Eucalypt forests boast an abundance of wildlife including kangaroos, echidnas and rosellas, some of which can be hand fed.

Yass Valley has a wide range of accommodation styles ranging from four-star hotels, bed and breakfasts to hideaway cabins in remote bushland.
