The Upper Hunter Shire includes the townships of Aberdeen, Merriwa, Murrurundi and Scone. Other idyllic villages are scattered throughout the shire. The Upper Hunter includes some of the most spectacular rural scenery to be found in NSW with the Barrington Tops, Towarri and Goulbourn River National Parks plus many State Forests. Rolling hills of fertile soil and crops are evident as you move west through the LGA to Merriwa and beyond.Scone is recognised as the 'Horse Capital' of Australia with a spectacular race course and equine facilities to service the large number of horse studs throughout the region. Highly productive river flats are surrounded by majestic volcanic peaks that provide snow capped vistas in the colder winter months.Accommodation is plentiful with a full range of options to choose from.
