The town of Hay (est. 1859) is filled with restored historical buildings. Hay is situated in the vast, flat, treeless Hay Plain (4,392,200 hectares). An extremely accessible destination for "outback" filming, halfway between Sydney and Adelaide and only 400km north of Melbourne. The Sturt, Cobb and Mid Western Highways all meet at Hay and Murrumbidgee River flows through the town. The town has ample accommodation with seven motels, six hotels and two caravan parks. The town of Booligal is 76km north of Hay and was made famous by Banjo Paterson's poem Hay and Hell and Booligal.Shear Outback - the "Australian Shearer's Hall of Fame" is an international tourist attraction and working museum in recognition of the contribution of the shearing profession, an industry to the culture, history and economy of Australia.
