The town and district is situated along the Lachlan River, in the "Heart of the Lachlan Valley"., with historic buildings and picturesque waterways.Some attractions include the Forbes Historical Society Museum, National Trust listed Historic Cemetery, Native Wildlife Sanctuary Gum Swamp, Sandhill's Vineyard, Ruby's Alpaca Stud.Accommodation is made up of seven motels, five hotels, four Caravan Parks, and five B & B's.Forbes starred prominently in the smash hit movie The Dish. Many of the buildings were featured. Council appointed a coordinator to oversee and assist the film company.Historic trail outlines stories of many of the characters, buildings and landmarks of the town.
