Cowra is a modern country town of over 12000 situated on the Lachlan River. It is 4 hours drive time and 1 hour by air from Sydney and 2 hours by road from Canberra. Close by historic villages feature verandahs and 19th Century architecture.Cowra Shire's diverse landscape includes - State Forests, a large inland lake, soft rolling hills cleared for cropping and grazing, vineyards, spectacular rocky outcrops close to main roads, river scenery, historic rail bridges, working rail turntable, steam trains and rolling stock, rail tunnels and period railway stations.Cowra has a number of historic buildings and farms in the district and was the location of the largest POW Camp in Australia in World War 2. This land is currently vacant. Much of the ABC production The Farm was shot in the district and the surrounding area has been popular for film advertisements and such mini-series as Inspector Morse.Cowra offers excellent accommodation, food and wine for film crews. It is central to such locations as Carcoar (where parts of Brides of Christ was filmed) and the village of Canowindra, which is renowned for its historic mainstreet fa�ade, hot air ballooning and fish fossil museum.
