The Burwood area has a rich heritage evidenced by the number of heritage items and heritage streetscapes in the area. There are 20 heritage conservation areas displaying a range of different streetscapes, including one of the most significant precincts in Sydney, Appian Way, with its curved street and large Federation homes on large allotments. Other significant streetscapes include The Strand, Croydon (Federation shopping strip), Burwood Road, Burwood (commercial/retail Town Centre) and Philip Street, Strathfield (residential streetscape).

The Council area features 8 items of State heritage significance and other historic buildings in private and public ownership, including Woodstock, a large 19th century mansion and grounds now used as a community centre. There are also a number of historic churches and a number of historic public and private schools with significant grounds and buildings. The area also features two significant parks: Burwood Park within the Burwood Town Centre which contains a pond, outdoor chess board, and War Memorial, and Henley Park in Enfield which is a large open parkland with sporting fields and a swimming centre. There are parts of the Burwood area that afford views to other suburbs and the city skyline.
